About Our Phlebotomy Technician Program
Begin your pathway into healthcare with the Phlebotomy Technician program at South Florida Healthcare Institute. This program is designed to prepare students for professional practice in hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, blood centers, and other clinical settings. Students develop competency in venipuncture and capillary collection techniques while gaining foundational knowledge in specimen handling, infection control, patient interaction, and safety standards essential to quality patient care.
Program Overview
Our Phlebotomy Technician program focuses on imparting safe and efficient work practices, ensuring students can obtain accurate and adequate blood specimens. The curriculum includes comprehensive instruction on labeling and transporting specimens correctly to various laboratory sections. Students are also educated on the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, and other diseases, enhancing their knowledge of crucial health and safety protocols. Upon completion, students can take the national Certified Phlebotomy examination through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
Licensure and Approvals
The Phlebotomy Technician program at South Florida Healthcare Institute is licensed by the Florida Department of Education, Commission for Independent Education (#9027), meeting established standards of quality and educational integrity. This licensure ensures that our curriculum aligns with state regulatory requirements and prepares students with a strong foundation for professional practice.
In addition, our Phlebotomy Technician program is approved by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), allowing eligible graduates to pursue nationally recognized certification.
Externship Placement
South Florida Healthcare Institute has established externship partnerships with organizations such as Any Lab Test Now and Baptist Health to provide Phlebotomy Technician graduates with valuable hands-on experience. During the externship, students have the opportunity to refine their venipuncture skills, strengthen patient interaction techniques, and work alongside experienced healthcare professionals in real clinical settings.
While the externship is not required for program completion, it is offered as an optional opportunity and is included in tuition at no additional cost. This experience enhances practical competency, builds professional confidence, and strengthens graduates’ résumés as they pursue employment as Certified Phlebotomy Technicians.
